Song of Moses
Song of Moses
The Lord’s Portion
(is His people)
Objective: To remind us of the emphasis God puts on His heritage.
Theme: Our existence is wrapped up in God’s persistence.
Opening Statement: Jesus died and rose again that we might have the power to overcome our weak faith. Our job is to perpetuate it unto all generations.
Moses was in his dying days, considering the state of Israel and His fast-approaching entrance into heaven.
Then read through vs 29
The WHO of the Resurrection
Jesus was raised by the Trinity
God raised Jesus
Acts 2:24, 32, 33
Acts 10:40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
Jesus raised Jesus
John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.
Holy Spirit raised Jesus
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
1 Peter 3:18
The WHY of the Resurrection
They each had their reasons, they had each lost something the resurrection gave them back.
- God the Father lost His Son and He wanted His Son back
- God the Son lost His throne and He wanted His Throne back
- God the Holy Spirit lost His creation and He wanted His Creation back (He wanted His People back)
Now let’s look at our text in Deut 32: 1-20
Jeshurun (Hebrew: יְשֻׁרוּן Yəšurūn; also Jesurun or Yeshurun) is a poetic name for Israel used in the Hebrew Bible. It is generally thought to be derived from a root word meaning:
1) Upright, just or straight. Since Israel was formerly named Jacob which means “Deceiver” this is an interesting concept.
But that is what God does, he redeems the unrighteous and shares with them his inheritance.
2) Noble and of High Dignity… making their unfaithfulness evermore severe
Israel means “Struggles with God.”
1 Peter 4:17-19
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Vs 9 For the Lord’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.
Vs’s 15-17 Jeshuran (Israel’s) sins
Vs 18 What they did to God’s heart
Vs 19 – 29 How God’s heart responded
APPLICATION: Why does God bring people together, such as in a church? What is he doing? Why not just let them stay scattered? What made Him the most angry about their behavior?
It was that they were corrupting God’s sons and daughters. The next generation… the children.
Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
Here’s my message to you… not my sermon, but my message.
The People and the Kids
are the MISSION!
He wants us as close as He can get us, and it’s through fellowship with Him in the Word and Prayer and us with each other in church and in service that He gets close to us.
Moses seems to be hinting at something here regarding age.
Jacob died at 147, his name was changed around 83 years old
He was about 56% through his life when God changed his name to Jeshurun/ Israel.
Avg lifespan today is 71
56% of the way through a 71 year old life is roughly 40 years.
Israel was judged 40 years in the wilderness
40 is the number of judgment
Vs 9 Jacob is the lot of God’s inheritance
Vs 15 Israel (Jushurun) waxed fat…
There is something about how God holds us responsible as we age in Him, He is holding us responsible for His heritage, his children, his sons and daughters.

Deut 32:45-47 45 And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel: 46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
We are responsible to build “Children of Faith.”
Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
Let this not be our legacy, rather let us heed Moses warning at the end of his song…
